Our Story

For generations, the historic Union Pacific Depot has created unforgettable moments of connection as travelers explored from east to west, and back again. Opened in 1909 to shorten rail journeys to southern California, the building was crafted in French Second Empire style, and includes an ornate terrazzo floor and dazzling stained glass windows.

One ceiling mural by San Francisco artist Harry Hopps depicts the driving of the Golden Spike north of Salt Lake City at “Promontory Summit” marking the completion of the first transcontinental railroad in 1869. Another by San Francisco artist John McQuarrie shows the 1847 arrival of emigrants to what is now Salt Lake City.
