Our Story

Set within the historic Union Pacific Depot, our storied property evokes a transformative era, when the transcontinental railroad linked East to West and changed America forever.

Timeline

  • 1900
    Initially proposed around the turn of the 20th century, the Union Depot was conceived to shorten train journeys to southern California.

  • 1908
    Construction begins, with the vision of creating a grander structure than Union Station in Denver, CO, opened just a few years prior.

  • 1909
    Construction was completed under the direction of Architect D.J. Patterson of the Southern Pacific at a cost of $450,000.

  • 1977
    Amtrak takes over passenger services at the station from Union Pacific until 1989.

  • 1989
    Union Pacific donates the historic building to the state of Utah.

  • 2006
    Three floors of the building were reopened as The Depot, with restaurant and music venues.

  • PRESENT
    Asher Adams Hotel opens, adding 225 luxury rooms and suites to the dynamic, vibrant Gateway complex in the heart of the city.
